Exhibition 2024
A Dacade In Digbeth
Aug 23 - Sept 23 2024

A Decade in Digbeth is a placeholder in this working artists development. Perfecting techniques and mediums to create the right amount of chaos that spins through many new works created for this exhibition....They are colourful, deep and have unseen layers that beg you to touch and see if you can go beneath them. Viewing of these pieces, each one will speak differently to the individual, like the way we argue over cloud sculptures for that fleeting moment, until they change in the wind.

In his words, Jinxy has been a full time artist his whole life; there just happened to be manual jobs getting in the way for a few decades. As a child, his wanting to go the Moseley School of Art was not on the radar, and Jinxy was sent to the new big comprehensive to get his education. Actually practising and studying his art was done entirely on his own terms for most of his life, and throughout various roles labouring and in the exhibition trade he was the one with a fat marker and piece of scrap cardboard providing entertaining drawings. But the 'Art' prevailed – it isn't a job, it is necessary calling.

Since moving out from the home studio, the creativity flourished. Inspiring ideas for using coffee as a medium, taking portrait commissions to the next level, insisting the subject be photographed by him for the reference, and developing personal portraits true to the subjects identity. This ability to show off the subject and capture their personality so vividly, harks back to Jinxy's caricatures, which he still get commissions for today.

A Decade in Digbeth invites you to see the full spectrum of this artist, and like the man himself – everyone will love different parts of it.
